Planning application amended – September 2024
As you will know, Lidl submitted revised proposals to Bassetlaw Council some time ago. Since then, we have been engaging with officers on the various technical details of the application.
The Council has now indicated that the application will be decided by the Planning Committee in March. Every letter or email sent to the Council helps demonstrate the strength of local feeling and the level of backing for the proposals.
If you would like to support the proposals for a new Lidl store and new homes in Worksop, please email your comments directly to planning@bassetlaw.gov.uk, quoting the reference number 23/00955/FUL.
Importantly, residents who speak in support of the application at the planning committee can have a genuine impact on the decision-making process. Hearing directly from local people helps councillors fully understand the benefits the proposals would bring to Worksop. If you would be interested in speaking at committee or would like more information about how to do so, please get in touch with us.

If approved the development will also deliver much-needed new homes, including affordable properties. The proposals include:
Planning application amended – September 2024
A modern and spacious layout, with a 1,516 sqm sales area Lidl store
Up to 40 new full and part time jobs for local people, in addition to those created during construction. Around 80% of new employees are expected to be recruited locally
Access to the site will be via a new traffic-light junction with Blyth Road, including a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing. The traffic signals will be connected to co-ordinate with the traffic lights at Blyth Road/Carlton Road junction
A total of 108 car parking spaces including disabled, parent and child and rapid Electric Vehicle charging spaces. The Lidl store will have secure parking for up ten bicycles. Public Rights of Way across the site will be maintained
Landscaping and tree planting across the site
Up to 89 new homes including affordable housing
The site is well connected by public transport links with bus stops on Blyth Road and Carlton Road. Worksop train station is a short walk away. Existing pedestrian routes across the site from South Parade, Queensway and Carlton Road will be retained, re-routed and enhanced where possible. Lidl will work with Bassetlaw Council to strengthen opportunities to encourage customers to also visit the town centre when shopping at the store
Planning application amended – September 2024
The below site plan shows the amended layout. The changes to the proposals relate only to the foodstore building, which now has a minor increase in floorspace, and with an amended building footprint the location of the new Lidl store has moved further east on the site. There are no changes to the proposed outline application element for new houses on the rest of the site.
Following refusal of the previous planning application in January 2023, Lidl reviewed the proposals to address issues raised by Bassetlaw Council’s Planning Committee. The biggest change is to remove the previously proposed coffee shop and drive-thru and to use the space for further new homes and enhanced landscaping instead. In addition, the previous owners of the Priory Shopping Centre suggested the Lidl foodstore could be located in the shopping centre as part of their redevelopment proposals. Since the refusal of the previous application, the Council have announced they have completed the purchase of the Priory Shopping Centre with an aim to creating a new location where shopping, socialising, food and drink, leisure and entertainment come together, rather than seeking to attract a new foodstore to that location.
